Picture This: Better Photos, Better Captions, Better Documentation

Parents these days expect to know a lot about their child’s day – and many of them expect to see it through photos and videos. No matter your phone or camera’s quality, it’s a real human that’s taking those photos and writing those captions: are you doing it well? Does your documentation tell the story of the learning and joy that happens in your programs, or are they just another ‘thing’ to check off?

In this training, we’ll uncover some of what makes photos and captions successful (or unsuccessful), comparing and contrasting each for the information they provide and their aesthetic qualities. We’ll go over quick tips for better photographs (even if you’re “not a photographer”) and an easy-to-adapt formula for captions that will ensure your work is well-received.

  • Compare a variety of photos from childcare settings and discuss what makes them interesting, unique, and/or informative
  • Examine photo captions that lack life and rewrite them to include quality information and joy
